Culture
Change and Climate
Research*
In early 1980s, Judd and Robert Allen performed a
retrospective study of 20 culture change projects organized
by the Human Resources Institute. The researchers asked
those involved in these projects to identify: (1) factors
that most contributed to the successes that were achieved;
and (2) what factors seemed to interfere with desired
change. The results of this analysis formed the basis for
identifying key work climate factors.
Three primary and interrelated work
climate factors were identified: a sense of community, a shared
vision and a positive outlook.
